Mage-War Ruleset:

Setup (Standard):

Each player has 40 HP

Pick a suite, and remove your opponents suite from your own deck

Stack the Ace-10 of your suite face down, in order, with the Ace on top and 10 on bottom.

Draw 3 cards. Then begin playing!

Play Cycle:

  1. Players gains 1 charge.

  2. Players draw a card from their deck.

  3. Once deciding how to cast their spell, players confirm they are ready.

  4. Both players countdown (3,2,1, “incantation”)* and then place their card.

  5. Players resolve the effects of battle, then the next round begins.

*Player can say their incarnation while revealing their card if one is being added to the casting, if not they need not say anything. Resolve the incantations effect before comparing values.

Battle:

When casting spells, players can choose Attack, Defend, or Absorb:

  • Attack: Play the card normally face up. If your number is higher you hurt the opponent for the difference.

  • Defend: Play the card sideways face up. Deal no damage, but the number is boosted 1.5 (rounding up).

  • Absorb: Play the card face down. The number is reduced to .75 its power, but if that value higher than the opponent you put their card on the bottom of your deck.

Incantations:

Using charges, enhance your spells to manipulate the course of battle!

  • Affinity (1 charge): Double the value of your card (can only be used on cards of your suite)

  • Fortify (3 charge): Add +5 to a card played in defense

  • Amplify (5 charge): Amplify your card’s value by 1.5 (rounding up).

  • Daze (8 charge): Replace your opponents card with the top card of their deck, then they shuffle their deck.

  • Silence (10 charge): Your opponents card becomes 0.

Modified Ruleset:

Instead of using different suites and removing their opponents, players can opt to play the modified format. In this, players select their archetype and remove whichever single suite they choose. All rules are the same as normal, except that absorbing a card of your archetype doubles your absorbs value (1.5x the base card’s number). Nab some spells with the proper timing and reap your reward with more affinity opportunities!
